Johnston County's first legal brewery opened in 2013 just outside the downtown district of Clayton, in a repurposed textile manufacturing plant. Today visitors enjoy a variety of craft beers, many that use locally grown raw materials like white sweet potatoes and watermelon; offering everything from IPAs to lagers to stouts to barrel aged beers. Tours upon request before 6 pm.

The tap room and large patio offer an inviting space to enjoy a brew and food trucks can often be found on-site to provide a meal or snack to brewery patrons. Visitors to the brewery can buy cans of product directly from the tap room; also available are beer accessories like glassware, t-shirts, and gift cards. Deep River is one of many stops along Johnston County's Beer, Wine, and Shine Trail!
