The 155-acre Shelby City Park offers many reasons for a visit. The rare, wooden 1919 Herschell Spillman Carrousel that has been restored for riders to enjoy as a childhood favorite. The Miniature Train Company's G-16 Diesel Streamliner, the "Rotary Special," recalls the golden age of American rail transportation. You can ride either for a nominal charge.
In addition to the park's carrousel and train, there are beautifully kept ball fields, accessible "All Aboard" playground, picnic areas, aquatics center, nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, outdoor volleyball and croquet court, horse shoes, and a sitting garden.
There is also a community center with 1,500-seat gymnasium with stage, gymnastics room, aerobics room and conference rooms.
