Rocky Mount Fire Museum
Operating as Fire Station No. 2 from 1924-1977, this amazing two-story, 3,840-square-foot brick building now functions as the Rocky Mount Fire Museum, located in the heart of historic downtown. The museum currently houses a wooden fire main, photographs of firefighters, the city's first fire alarm system, and other fascinating memorabilia. A must-see is the once horse-drawn steam engine that was built in 1878 and was used in Rocky Mount from 1896 until 1922.
