Old Stone House
While most settlers lived in cabins, Michael Braun built this two-story Georgian-style house in 1766, which is the oldest structure in Rowan County, and considered one of the finest examples of German architecture in the southeast. The former domicile became a museum where you can explore where the Braun's entertained their guests, where they spent time as a family, and how their daily lives worked. This house was once abandoned and completely destroyed on the main level, but now you can experience the meticulous restoration that has taken place. The stairs were ripped out prior to the destruction, leaving the upstairs in close to original condition. You will have the opportunity to compare and contrast the original versus the restored! Explore the grounds and gardens too! They also hold four major events throughout the year, which are worth exploring!
