The Abbey Nature Preserve is a 62-acre historical nature trail that boarders the historical site of Poplar Grove. The preserve’s trail is documented as being traversed for over 3 centuries by the enslaved community of Poplar Grove, designated as historically significant on the Gullah Geechee National Heritage Corridor. The forested path leads back to a 10-acre pond surrounded by beautiful trees, plants, flowers and ecosystems that are only found only in Coastal NC. Walk the same path that some of the first African Americans did past honeysuckles, greenery and almost ancient trees. Experience our great outdoors with family, friends and even pets while strolling, bird watching or just viewing our wildlife.
