Museum of Ashe County History
The historic courthouse itself is our #1 exhibit. Historic architects, restoration specialists, contractors and volunteers have worked for more than seven years restoring this elegant Victorian lady to her 1904 beauty. Our collections have been moved here and now the ground floor exhibit halls and gift shop are open daily.
Displays highlight the area’s history from moonshining and the military including exhibits for the Civil War and World War II. The Virginia Creeper exhibit takes up a whole room with its a model train that continuously runs through models of Lansing, West Jefferson and into Todd. The Ore Knob Mine exhibit simulates a 19th century mine shaft, plus offers a diorama of how the Ore Knob Mine looked in the 1870s when it was a working mine in Ashe County.
Enjoy "Music on the Green" during the summer months and the Annual Autumn Leaf Festival in October.
