Doughton Park Campground
There are 25 RV sites and 63 tent sites at this rustic campground right on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Up to 1/3 of the sites are reservable, including one pull-through site in the RV loop. This 7,000-acre park, the largest recreation area on the Blue Ridge Parkway, also offers hiking trails and picnic areas. It includes the picturesque Brinegar Cabin and the Caudill Family Homestead, a dramatic exhibit of isolated mountain life. Cross Country skiing is allowed when the park is accessible in winter. It has gently rolling terrain and numerous trails. Use of trails is free. Year-round this area is a great place for bird-watchers to wander the trails, and wild-life abounds in this relatively untouched area.
