Mount Airy Museum of Regional History
A 100-foot mural of the surrounding mountains is located in the main gallery and sets the stage for your tour. Exhibits provide a trip back in time, from the natural history to the world’s largest open-face granite quarry, a stop at an authentic reproduction of a log cabin; a turn-of-the-century general store; a train room where a 70-foot scale model train exhibit is nearing completion; a gallery on fire fighters that includes a 1916, 1926 and 1946 fire truck, all used by the City of Mount Airy. Second floor exhibits focus on the early 1900s, The "Original Siamese Twins" Eng and Chang Bunker, Andy Griffith, Tommy Jarrell and more! A visit to the observation room, located on the fourth floor of the clock tower, provides an awesome view of surrounding mountains.
