This large tract of public woodlands is known for its hunting, fishing & recreational opportunities. The property includes parts of Burke, Cleveland, McDowell and Rutherford counties. Land is open to the public per hunting and fishing seasons. All state permits are required to use the property. Hiking is also available in the area with lookout towers as well. South Mountain Game Land is located adjacent to South Mountain State Park which is about an hour's drive from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure.
