The Lost Colony Receives National Support
MANTEO, NC – The National Endowment of
the Arts recently awarded the Roanoke Island Historical Association
(RIHA), The Lost Colony’s producing organization,

Bald Head Island Takes Lead in International Barrier Island Research
Bald Head Island, NC – The Bald Head Island
Conservancy, an independent non-profit organization, has launched
an in-depth program to study conservation and development strategies
that promote barrier island sustainability, taking a lead role
in international barrier island research. The program’s
objective is to better understand the behavior of North Carolina’s
barrier islands and to identify worldwide solutions to save and
maintain these environments. |
Pasquotank Arts Council Signs Construction Contract
Elizabeth City, NC –The former “Bee
Hive” Department store will soon be a center of activity
again as the long-awaited renovation of the building for an arts
center is about to get underway.
The
Pasquotank Arts Council announces that it has signed a construction
contract with A.R. Chesson Construction Co., Inc. The total cost of
the renovation project of the historic downtown building is a little
more than $3 million. |

2007 NC State Fair Awards 165 Medals in Commercial Winery Division
RALEIGH, NC – The 8th Annual N.C. State
Fair Wine Competition, held Oct. 3-4 in Raleigh, had 249 wines
submitted by 32 N.C. wineries. McRitchie Winery took home the
N.C. Winegrowers Cup and Best of Show honors with their 2006
Chardonnay. Duplin Winery’s Magnolia took the N.C. Muscadine
Cup for best muscadine wine for the third year in a row. |
