Daniel Boone Days Celebrates Boone’s Heritage Sept. 4-6; Will Include World Record for Most Folks Wearing Coonskin Caps

BOONE, NC – The inaugural Daniel Boone Days heritage festival debuts Sept. 4-6, setting the foundation for an exciting annual event in this well-known High Country town. The festival has created a first-year buzz with its plan to establish a world record for having the most people simultaneously wearing Daniel Boone coonskin hats. The gathering takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday on Depot Street in Boone and will be verified by the World Record Academy of Miami, Fla. Attendees are encouraged to participate, with hats available for $10 at either Mast General Store, or Daniel Boone Headquarters at 130 North Depot Street.

ELIZABETH CITY, NC – The Museum of the Albemarle has revved up its motors to bring its newest exhibit entitled Plugs and Props: Classic Outboard Motors.” Plugs and Props” features 24 classic outboard motors that served the Albemarle area. Motors range from an Arrow and Mace 2hp Model used from 1900 to 1920, a 3hp Evinrude Elto from 1923, to various Mercury and Johnson engines. These engines powered the small skiffs that proved so important for fishing and transportation in the Albemarle Region.

Author To Discuss Her Search For Family Roots

Ansel Adams Exhibition Generates Headline News For Museum of the Albemarle and Elizabeth City

ELIZABETH CITY, NCThe Chicago Tribune covered it. So did the Boston Herald, San Francisco Chronicle, Tampa Tribune, The Washington Post and Atlanta’s Journal-Constitution. News of the Ansel Adams in the East exhibition at the Museum of the Albemarle generated more than $180,000 in public relations value, according to the Elizabeth City Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (ECACVB).

The Lost Colony Receives National Support

MANTEO, NC – The National Endowment of the Arts recently awarded the Roanoke Island Historical Association (RIHA), The Lost Colony’s producing organization, a $20,000 grant. The grant was awarded to assist the drama’s rebuilding efforts following the September fire that destroyed three buildings and their contents—including 80% of the current production’s costumes.  This is the first grant awarded by the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) to an outdoor drama.

Blue Ridge Parkway Destination Center

ASHEVILLE, NC – The National Park Service and the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area announce the opening of the Blue Ridge Parkway Destination Center at milepost 384 on the parkway on December 17. The center’s exhibits highlight the natural and cultural diversity, economic traditions and recreational opportunities found in western North Carolina and along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Center also houses a 70-seat theater, information and orientation services and book sales area.

The Holiday Inn Center City – Charlotte Wins The IHG 2007 Renovation Award

ATLANTA, GA –The Holiday Inn Center City- Charlotte has received the IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) [LON: IHG, NYSE: IHG (ADRs)] 2007 Renovation Award for having successfully completed major modernization and renovation programs during the past year. Bald Head Island Takes Lead in International Barrier Island Research

Bald Head Island, NC – The Bald Head Island Conservancy, an independent non-profit organization, has launched an in-depth program to study conservation and development strategies that promote barrier island sustainability, taking a lead role in international barrier island research. The program’s objective is to better understand the behavior of North Carolina’s barrier islands and to identify worldwide solutions to save and maintain these environments.

Pasquotank Arts Council Signs Construction Contract

Elizabeth City, NC –The former “Bee Hive” Department store will soon be a center of activity again as the long-awaited renovation of the building for an arts center is about to get underway. The Pasquotank Arts Council announces that it has signed a construction contract with A.R. Chesson Construction Co., Inc. The total cost of the renovation project of the historic downtown building is a little more than $3 million.

New Wave Pool, Cabana Service Highlight Expansion of Boomerang Bay Water Park

Charlotte, NC – Carowinds Boomerang Bay water park will undergo its second multi-million dollar expansion in three years for the 2008 season, adding a new, 600,000-gallon wave pool, rental cabanas with chair-side service and numerous other amenities prior to its opening in May.

2007 NC State Fair Awards 165 Medals in Commercial Winery Division

RALEIGH, NC – The 8th Annual N.C. State Fair Wine Competition, held Oct. 3-4 in Raleigh, had 249 wines submitted by 32 N.C. wineries. McRitchie Winery took home the N.C. Winegrowers Cup and Best of Show honors with their 2006 Chardonnay. Duplin Winery’s Magnolia took the N.C. Muscadine Cup for best muscadine wine for the third year in a row.

Great Wolf Resorts Inc. Announces Concord, NC As Site of Next Great Wolf Lodge

MADISON, WI – Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ: WOLF), North America’s leading family of indoor waterpark resorts, today announced it will officially break ground on its eleventh Great Wolf Lodge® resort in Concord, N.C. later this year. The company has purchased the site for its 402-suite, four-story, northwoods-themed resort. The City of Concord, Cabarrus County, Cabarrus County Economic Development and the Cabarrus Convention & Visitors Bureau were instrumental in bringing the Great Wolf Lodge family indoor waterpark resort to the area.

YouTube Videos Feature Sea Turtles Hatchings at Carolina Beach, NC

CAROLINA BEACH, NC – ‘Tis the season for sea turtle nestings! Loggerhead sea turtles visit Wilmington & North Carolina’s Cape Fear Coast beaches between mid-May and September. This threatened species is protected by the Endangered Species Act. Each summer local citizens, such as the volunteers for the Pleasure Island Sea Turtle Project, work day and night to help hatchlings return to the ocean.

Resident Artists Enrich the Blowing Rock Gallery Experience

Billy Graham Library: Fact Sheet

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Billy Graham Library honors and depicts the life of evangelist
Billy Graham. The purpose of the Library is to serve as an extension of the evangelistic ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and continue the legacy it has had for 60 years of delivering the simple Gospel message around the world. The Library will allow visitors to walk through “One Man’s Journey”—that of Billy Graham. The Library is 40,000 square feet and the entrance is designed to resemble a barn, harkening back to Graham’s childhood on the family dairy farm in Charlotte, N.C. It will house six exhibits, four galleries, and two theaters covering the span of Graham’s lifetime work reaching more than 210 million people on six continents.

RALEIGH, NC – The North Carolina Museum of Art announced today it has received an unprecedented gift of Auguste Rodin works from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation.  The gift of 23 works of art, including 22 bronze sculptures by Rodin, makes the Museum one of the world's top Rodin repositories and the only cultural institution in the South with a major Rodin collection.
