Linville Gorge Wilderness Area - Linville Falls
Carved deep into the Blue Ridge Mountains by the Linville River, the Linville Gorge is one of Eastern America’s most scenic and inviting gorges. For 12 miles, the river descends more than 2,000 feet through the Gorge, including via Linville Falls, to level at Lake James. Part of the Pisgah National Forest, the Gorge has been commonly called the "Grand Canyon of the East." It's one of only two wilderness gorges in the Southeast.
Linville Falls is the most popular waterfall in the Blue Ridge Mountains because of its accessibility to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is a spectacular three-tiered waterfall plunging into Linville Gorge. Pets are welcome but must be on a leash. Find information on the two hiking trails and map at https://www.nps.gov/blri/planyourvisit/linville-falls-trails.htm.
Please check the website for camping and permit information. The Visitor's Center is at Mile 316.
